Police were forced to smash a car's windows to rescue four people when the vehicle caught fire after a pursuit in Brisbane's north.

Officers began to chase the 4WD when it allegedly failed to stop on the Bruce Highway at Brighton about 8.30pm on Thursday (AEST).

The 4WD became stuck in long grass near the Depot Road on-ramp at Deagon a few minutes later.

Officers approached the vehicle to arrest the three men and one woman inside, but police say the group resisted and attempted to drive off.

The grass under the vehicle caught fire, and police broke the windows to remove the group.

Two men were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and one was subsequently released.

Two men and one woman are being questioned by police, while the other man remains under guard at hospital.

The fire also destroyed a police dog squad vehicle, but no officers or animals were injured.
