The family of a two-year-old found buried beneath a house might finally get some answers when a Victorian coroner delivers a finding on Thursday.
The fate of Daniel Thomas has been a mystery for more than a decade after he was reported missing by his babysitter in October 2003.
It took five years for Daniel's remains to be found buried under a Myrtleford home in 2008 where he and his mother had previously lived.
His killer has never been bought to justice.
Last year's inquest into the mystery featured plenty of finger-pointing as sensational accusations flew at both his mother, Donna Thomas, and babysitter, Mandy Martyn.
A friend of Ms Martyn, Madeline Kelly, revealed that the babysitter had spoken of witnessing Ms Thomas strangle Daniel late one night.
"When she found this ... she said she belted Donna to stop her," Ms Kelly said in a police statement read to the inquest.
The Wangaratta inquest also heard claims Daniel suffered abuse at the hands of both Ms Thomas and Ms Martin.
Ms Martin's son claimed his mother regularly mistreated Daniel.
The son, who cannot be named, said his mother would often punish Daniel by giving him cold baths and tying him to the bed.
Coroner Jacinta Heffey will deliver her findings in Melbourne on Thursday.
