The body of a Perisher staff member has been found in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains overnight after he failed to return from a snowboarding session yesterday.
NSW Police were contacted by the man's employer about 10:50pm on Wednesday after he failed to arrive for his rostered shift.
A search was conducted and his body was found on the mountain about 11:30pm.
In a statement, Perisher Ski Resort said the community was shocked by the staff worker's death.
More than 10,000 people were at the resort yesterday.
"It's obviously a very sad day for his family and the entire Perisher community. Our condolences go out to the young man's family and friends during this difficult time," Perisher chief executive Peter Brulisauer said.
Police are investigating whether the man fell while snowboarding.
Acting Monaro police commander Evan Quarmby said other workers in the area found the man's body.
He said the cause of the man's death is not yet known.
"We've responded with trained investigators to look into the matter, but initial inquiries are looking into whether the man fell while snowboarding," he said.
Superintendent Quarmby said police were also searching for another missing man in Perisher last night.
"Our emergency services were certainly kept busy last night, about 5:00pm we had a report of another missing person," he said.
"He was reported missing by two of his friends after being out snowboarding all day.
"A well-coordinated search by police, national parks, ambulance and SES located the man at about 2:30am."
Snowboarders urged to heed safety weather warningsSuperintendent Quarmby said the big downfall of snow over the past few days has drawn crowds, but caused problems on the slopes.
"It's very cold obviously, there's a lot of snow around which often hampers our efforts to locate people and our operations and does bring people out obviously enjoying themselves in the snow," he said.
"We would always advise people to take as much care as they can.
"Preferably don't go out on your own and keep people informed of what you're doing so that if something does happen, even if it's just a simple accident, we can get to you quickly and effectively.
"It's a changing weather environment down there and a beautiful morning can certainly be an ugly afternoon."
Last week a seven-year-old boy died after being buried under snow at the Mt Buller ski fields, in Victoria's north-east.
Haadi Akhtar from Roxburgh Park in Melbourne's north was playing with his siblings when a large amount of snow fell onto him from a chalet roof.
He was found unconscious in the snow and was taken to Mt Buller Medical Centre, where he later died from cardiac arrest.
In May, a 62-year-old woman and 65-year-old man from Sydney spent the night in freezing conditions after they became lost leaving a Thredbo Village lodge to go walking in Kosciuszko National Park.
They were found safe and well.
