An agreement struck by Tasmania Police to get rid of its problem-plagued boat looks like it has sunk.
The Fortescue has cost police $500,000 in repairs and modifications since its launch six years ago.
They had been considering selling it for scrap but jumped at a deal brokered in the dying days of the Labor government to give it to Seafood Training Tasmania and get its market value back from Treasury, which is now estimated to be less than $300,000.
But Police Minister Rene Hidding says it is not something he has agreed to.
"The matter's not been determined and it's still to be determined," he said.
Police have just spent another $70,000 to get the Fortescue in survey as part of the now shaky deal.
Police Commissioner Darren Hine says he cannot do anything until the Government has made its decision.
