Tony Abbott has again brushed off Liberal leadership speculation, saying he's not interested in which members of his frontbench have dinner with crossbenchers.
The prime minister has also made it clear he has no intention of reshuffling his ministerial team.
Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull, a former Liberal leader, set off renewed leadership speculation after a private dinner with Senate powerbroker Clive Palmer last week.
Mr Abbott denies Mr Turnbull defied a request to co-ordinate meetings with crossbenchers through the house leaders.
But he kept mum on whether his minister briefed him after his meeting.
"I'm not interested in who has meals with whom," Mr Abbott told ABC radio on Tuesday.
The prime minister said he was focused on selling the budget to the public and "genial relations" with the crossbench was part of that.
"If that needs an occasional meal with the crossbench, then so be it."
Mr Abbott also dismissed criticism of his senior ministers for apparent missteps in their portfolio areas.
Getting 29 out of 30 on an exam was a "pretty good mark", he said.
A cabinet reshuffle would be unlikely, given the government was only eight months into the job.
"We may not be the most popular government at the moment, but we're the hope of our side."
