Two men have been injured in a helicopter crash at Coffs Harbour airport on the New South Wales mid-north coast.

The Bell 206 4 seater helicopter stalled and fell to the ground as it was taking off just before 7am.

The helicopter's tail broke off as it crashed.

Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the crash, finding two men with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both were taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital in a stable condition, with one complaining of back pain.

Police say both men, aged 58 and 62, are from Tasmania.

The helicopter wreckage remains in a paddock at the airport.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is expected to investigate the crash.
