A shot was fired in the Adelaide suburb of Colonel Light Gardens overnight after a man discovered his car being broken into.
About 1:30am (ACST), a resident went outside to check on noises and found a man breaking into the car, which was parked outside his home on Hastings Road.
There was a scuffle when he attempted to drag the man out of the car.
At that moment another man emerged and fired a shot into the air, police said.
The owner of the car received a cut to his head in the scuffle, and the alleged offenders escaped in a dark vehicle.
Forensic investigators have taken photographs at the scene and items that were dropped will be tested for DNA.
