Police do not believe speed was a factor in a crash at Ulverstone which killed two people.

A car carrying three women aged in their 60s missed a right-hand bend on Hobbs Parade at West Ulverstone on Sunday afternoon, crossing a median strip and hitting a male pedestrian.

The car then rolled into the brick wall of a hardware store.

The car's driver and back seat passenger died at the scene, while the other passenger was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The pedestrian was seriously injured.

Senior Sergeant Simon Conroy says it is still unclear what caused the crash.

"It'd just started lightly raining at the time, there's nothing out of the ordinary, speed doesn't appear to have been a factor," he said.

All four people were local residents and police say it will affect the whole community.

"It's a tragedy. All the people are Ulverstone residents, no doubt the community will feel the effects of this incident," Sen. Sgt Conroy said.

Tasmania's road toll stands at 14 for the year.
