ABC The Magistrates Court in Launceston heard the man had told his partner after the assault that he needed help.A man from Longford in Tasmania's north who indecently assaulted his young daughter will spend at least another three months in prison.
The man, 23, is an overseas national who cannot be named for legal reasons.
He had pleaded guilty to indecent assault and assault with indecent intent.
In February, the man touched the three-year-old girl while her Tasmanian mother was out.
The Magistrates Court in Launceston heard the child told her mother what had happened and the man admitted to his partner that he needed help.
During sentencing, the court heard the man had told his partner in 2010 that he had sexual urges towards children.
The offender has autism and had been abused by his father's partner as a child.
Magistrate Reg Marron sentenced him to 11 months in prison but suspended five months, on the condition he participate in a sex offenders' treatment program.
He also took into account the man's early guilty plea.
