Another day, another chance the Senate might vote to scrap the carbon tax.
The upper house on Thursday enters a gruelling schedule of extended sitting hours to deal with priority government business including legislation to repeal the carbon impost.
Despite the threat of after-hours detention, senators have not appeared in a rush to plough through business.
"There is a picket of the Senate voting box, we are going through this agonising process of speech after speech," Environment Minister Greg Hunt said of the upper house process.
"We will keep going for as long as it takes this parliament until this carbon tax is repealed."
