Thousands of households in Sydney's south were without water overnight as crews worked to repair a burst water main at Bexley.
Water supply was to be shut off to properties in Bexley, Rockdale, Arncliffe and Bardwell Valley until 7:00am.
Sydney Water spokesman Karl Schubert last night said the cause of the burst main was not known.
"Our crews' priorities, first and foremost, are to get it repaired and get water restored to the area as quickly as possible," he said.
"We would expect that the majority of 6,500 properties to potentially be without water (Saturday) evening... while others may be without water for the duration of the repairs.
"It's expected that work will be completed around 7:00am on Sunday morning, however, this timing is dependent on the scope of the repairs required."
The supplier had encouraged customers to plan by filling additional containers.
