ABC Police seized a sawn-off double-barrel shotgun and a sawn-off .22 rifle (inset).The bomb squad was called to a home in Conder at the weekend after police discovered an improvised explosive device and several other weapons *inside a pinball ball machine.*
The pipe bomb was one of several items seized during Saturday's search, which also uncovered a crossbow, a sawn-off double-barrel shotgun, a sawn-off .22 rifle and ammunition.
With the help of a sniffer dog, the items were found wrapped in blankets and plastic bags and hidden inside a vintage, 1970s-era pinball ball machine.*ACT Policing's Tuggeranong and Woden criminal investigations teams executed a search warrant at the home in Canberra's south at about 2:30pm (AEST),* after receiving a tip off.*
The area around the home was closed off and the bomb squad was called to clear the house at about 8pm.
Nearby residents were also evacuated as a precaution.*A 26-year-old man was set to be summonsed to the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date, where he will be charged with offences relating to the seized items.
Police have urged anyone with information on illicit firearms to call Crime Stoppers.
