Commuters on the Gold Coast face a couple of days of delays as a large sinkhole on one of the city's main roads is repaired.
The sinkhole, which swallowed about 10m of road on Sunday morning, has forced the closure of one southbound lane of the Gold Coast Highway in Broadbeach.
It's believed a burst water main caused the road surface to collapse.
A Gold Coast City Council spokesman told AAP it was hoped the road would be fixed by Tuesday morning, and that water supply to the region was unaffected.
"No one's lost water around there," he said.
"Some may have lower pressure but there's no businesses in the region without water."
The road is one of the major north-south routes on the Gold Coast, and the closure will cause significant delays to outbound traffic during the evening rush hour.
Local hotel manager Allan Marsom said the sight of the hole outside his property was shocking.
"When I went out I thought it was raining and I missed it, but then I realised the driveway wasn't wet so I thought I better go and have a look and there was water gushing down the street," Mr Marsom told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
"It's pretty horrendous. The traffic signal didn't even look like falling in when I was first there so it opened up a fair bit in a short amount of time."
