The owner of the Mt Lyell copper mine on Tasmania's west coast is set to announce the mine's closure.
Workers are currently in a meeting with management.
The future of Australia's longest continually operating mine, at Queenstown, has been uncertain since the deaths of three workers in two separate incidents about six months ago.
The company stopped production in January and 200 workers have been stood down on half pay ever since.
Copper Mines of Tasmania had hoped to reopen the mine this year, but a rock fall last week disrupted those plans.
Union officials arrived at the mine this morning, and workers are now being briefed on the mine's future.
The company is expected speak to the media this afternoon.
More to come.
