The Coalition's primary vote is back up to 40 per cent for the first time since April, regaining lost ground from its unpopular budget in the biggest rise in support for the government in its 11 months in power, the latest Newspoll shows.
The poll, published in The Australian newspaper on Monday, also indicates that Prime Minister Tony Abbott's focus on international affairs has boosted his stocks compared with Opposition Leader Bill Shorten for the third consecutive poll.
It has helped Mr Abbott take back the lead as preferred prime minister for the first time in four months.
