A man has been shot dead at Leichhardt in Sydney's inner west.
The victim, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was shot a number of times on Lords Road just after 5:30pm (AEST) on Monday.
Paramedics tried to revive the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one has yet been arrested over the incident.
Officers secured the crime scene near Flood Street and Lords Road, and the Homicide Squad was investigating what sparked the shooting.
A woman who works in the area told the ABC she thought initially the victim had been run over by a car.
"I saw this body lying in the gutter and a police car turned up and somebody was giving CPR or something on this person in the gutter," she said.
"And I didn't realise until later someone said a person had been shot. A lot of police turned up.
"We've had a few people run over at the pedestrian crossing so I just thought the person had been run over."
