A manhunt is underway in Hobart's northern suburbs after an armed holdup at a money lending business.
Staff at a sandwich bar in Moonah triggered their alarm after seeing the hold up in progress inside a personal finance company across the road.
Customer Nick Bennett, 19, has told the ABC he saw a man wearing a white hooded poncho walk into the building and a female staff member raise her hands above her head about 2:00pm
When he confronted the man on Main Road, Mr Bennett said he appeared to be carrying a large quantity of cash.
Mr Bennett gave chase but lost track of the offender when he cut through a nearby hotel.
"I saw this guy walking up Hopkins street with a poncho on like the shape that the Ku Klux Klan would wear so I thought this looks a bit strange so I just watched him," he said.
"I watched him go into the money place and as he went in there I saw the lady put her hands up and then he came back out with a big amount of cash"
Detectives have been interviewing witnesses and searching a nearby bike track for the distinctive white poncho or any sign that the offender had stashed the cash or weapon.
