A man has been arrested after crashing a car into a Hindmarsh business, ending a police chase through Adelaide's western suburbs.
Police allege the man was armed with a screwdriver when he grabbed cash from the gaming area of the West Lakes Resort Hotel about 10:30am.
A staff member gave chase but let the offender go when threatened with the screwdriver.
The offender fled in a black utility which had been reported stolen from a property at Hindmarsh earlier in the morning.
Police spotted the car in Eastern Parade at Ottoway and, with back-up from the police helicopter, pursued it until it crashed in Port Road at Hindmarsh.
Chief Inspector Kym Zander says the utility mounted a median strip, collided with a truck and crashed into the front of a hotel.
"This is a fairly serious situation that could have had far-reaching consequences," he said.
"This out of control car could have taken, or injured, anyone who was in the vicinity."
Officers say the driver ran off but was captured a short distance away.
