PUP yet to make call on Newman*s seat (AAP)

Clive Palmer says his party is out to win government in Queensland, but is yet to decide if it will take on the premier.

The federal MP says his Palmer United Party (PUP) is looking to field candidates in all 89 seats, although the final number may be smaller.

"We may not do that. We may come back to 60 seats or so," Mr Palmer told AAP.

It remains unclear whether the party will run a candidate against Premier Campbell Newman in his Brisbane seat of Ashgrove.

"We haven't decided that yet," Mr Palmer said.

The Liberal National Party (LNP) holds 73 seats after losing two in savage by-election defeats.

The government's heavy loss in Stafford at the weekend prompted it to dump three key policies, including forcing convicted bikies to wear pink jumpsuits in jail and serve their time in solitary confinement.

Mr Palmer, once one of the LNP's most generous donors, says the LNP will be punished at the 2015 election, and PUP was aiming to win government.

He says 140 PUP members had applied to stand as candidates at the next poll.

They include lawyers upset about how the LNP has treated the judiciary, tradesmen concerned about jobs and young people worried about the future of the state, he says.
