Prime Minister Tony Abbott expects the new Senate to vote on the carbon tax this week despite the delaying tactics of Labor and the Greens.
The Abbott government will will on Monday bring on the carbon legislation, with the help of minor party senators.
The new Senate will sit for the first time on Monday, with conservative crossbenchers holding the balance of power.
"You have already voted to scrap the carbon tax," Mr Abbott told voters in a statement.
"Now it's up to the Senate to do the same."
The Senate had issued a July 14 deadline for a crucial report into the legislation, which needs to be tabled before debate can begin.
But the government's leader in the Senate Eric Abetz said the reporting date was the last hurrah of the former upper house, dominated by Labor and Greens opposed to the carbon tax repeal.
"We are committed to putting it up," he said of the legislation.
Twelve new senators will be sworn in on Monday morning, including three from the Palmer United Party, the Australian Motoring Enthusiasts Party's Ricky Muir, Family First's Bob Day and Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm
The renewed push to scrap the tax came as 59 economists wrote an open letter calling for a price on carbon.
Despite a broad range of political views, they say they all believe putting a price and limit on carbon pollution is the most economically efficient way to reduce emissions.
"Australia can and should do its fair share to contribute to global emissions cuts," the letter says.
