Man charged with attempted murder over Helensvale shopping centre car park shooting (ABC)

A Brisbane man has been charged with attempted murder over a shooting in a Gold Coast shopping centre car park.

Police said the 43-year-old man became involved in an argument with a 35-year-old woman in the Helensvale car park shortly after 10:00am on Saturday morning, when the man's gun was fired during a struggle.

"The man was restrained by members of the public, with the woman taking possession of the weapon and retreating to safety," police said in a statement.

"The man then broke free and fled the scene in a vehicle."

Police said the woman was taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries, but four children in a car nearby were not injured.

The man handed himself in to police and he was later charged.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
