Four people have died after the car they were in left the Pacific Highway just north of Ballina and crashed into a tree.
Police were called to the scene at about 1.20am on Wednesday to find the crashed Hyundai sedan.
All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
The Pacific Highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
The Transport Management Centre advises southbound motorists to use Bangalow Road and the Bruxner Highway via Lismore as an alternative route.
Northbound motorists are advised to use the Bruxner Highway and Bangalow Road via Lismore as an alternative route.
