Sydney soccer players to mark teen*s death (AAP)

Footballers across Sydney's south will observe a moment of silence on Sunday in memory of a teenager who collapsed during a Saturday afternoon game and died.

Fairfax Media reports 16-year-old Marc Arcuri was playing for Austral at WV Scott Memorial Park, near Liverpool, when he told his coach he felt unwell and ran off the field.

He collapsed soon after.

Southern Districts Football Soccer Association president Andy Favaloro told AAP that other clubs in the region had been informed.

"As an act of respect, (on Sunday) we want to conduct a minute's silence prior to the kick-off," he said.

It's believed Austral Soccer Club president Kevin Campbell and the mother of a player from the opposing team, a nurse, performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Inspector Steve Corry of Green Valley police told Channel Seven some of the boy's teammates had joined his parents at Liverpool Hospital.

"It's distressing for anyone to lose a young man at that age," Insp Corry said.
