Man dead, seven-year-old in critical condition after ultralight plane crashes south of Melbourne (ABC)

A man has died and a seven-year-old girl is in a critical condition after an ultralight aircraft crashed into a house at Tyabb, south of Melbourne.

Witnesses called emergency services after the trike aircraft came down in a front garden on Seaview Roadd, near the Tyabb airport, just before 5:30pm.

Police said the plane crashed into the house, but no-one was inside at the time.

The man died at the scene.

The girl was critically injured, police said, and was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital.

Police said it is not known why the plane crashed.
