Two missing after trying to rescue friend swept from rocks at Wybung Head on NSW Central Coast (ABC)

Rescue crews are searching for two fishermen who are missing in waters off the New South Wales Central Coast, after jumping in to save their friend.

Last night a group of six people from Sydney were fishing off rocks at Wybung Head when a large wave knocked a woman into the water.

Two men from the group - both in their 20s - jumped into the water to rescue her.

The woman made her way back to shore safely on a wave, but her friends failed to return.

Sergeant Larry Malone from the Marine Area Command says it can be a dangerous spot.

"It's a known area where people do get washed from rocks - it's happened on more than one occasion," he said.

Last night's search failed to find any sign of the pair. Police have resumed the search, with the help of the Westpac rescue helicopter and lifesavers.
