A man is missing in waters at a rocky beach near Victor Harbor, south of Adelaide, after earlier being spotted getting into trouble.
The search has been suspended for the man who was in the water at Petrel Cove, near the popular lookout spot the Bluff, in Encounter Bay.
He was seen to be in distress and being washed into rocks.
Witness Lawrie Blakemore says two men on the beach tried to help the man but got into trouble themselves.
"There were two guys trying to rescue him and the guy that went on the rock got trapped there," he said.
A helicopter was called in to airlift that man from the rocks but there has been no sign of the man he went in to rescue.
Police will decide on Saturday morning whether to resume the search.
