Perth policeman dragged by car (AAP)

A WA police officer was dragged by a car for five metres before the driver sped off with two women wanted for questioning over a liquor store theft.

Police say a 25-year-old Perth man has been charged after he allegedly dragged a police officer through a car park following attempts to question his two female passengers.

A pair of officers had attempted to stop the two women as they left a liquor store on Albany Highway, Beckenham on Saturday afternoon but they instead jumped into the man's car.

The officers identified themselves several times, but the driver refused to turn off the engine and talk to them.

One of the officers tried to remove the keys from the car and was dragged for about five metres as the driver sped off, before being able to let go.

Police said the offender then drove through the car park before returning and driving towards the officer.

He finally came to a stop and was arrested at the scene.

He has been charged with acts or omissions that are likely to endanger life, health or safety and will appear in court at a later date.

The policeman suffered only minor lacerations.
