The mounted section of the West Australian Police have continued a unique Anzac Day tradition, charging across Perth's Langley Park so their horses can let off steam after leading the CBD parade.

Leading the march is the only ceremonial activity the unit carries out and many of the officers involved do so in their own time so that they can be available to police post-parade celebrations.

Police say the charge through Langley Park, which was Perth's first airstrip and is still used as a runway on occasion, has been a tradition for the past 10 years.

The officer-in-charge said the charge rewarded the horses after they'd been well-behaved and disciplined during the parade. And they loved it.
